A fast growing, large, twining honeysuckle, Hall's Prolific Japanese Honeysuckle was awarded the RHS ‘Award of Garden Merit’. It produces masses of sweetly fragrant, tubular flowers from May to September, opening pure white and ageing to a lovely lemon yellow. Flowers emerge from between the dark green semi-evergreen leaves (evergreen in mild climates). This Yellow and White Honeysuckle distinguishes itself by flowering profusely on both young and mature stems. Lonicera japonica 'Hall's Prolific' is an improvement of 'Halliana' (Hall's Honeysuckle or Hall's Japanese Honeysuckle), it is more floriferous than the later. Japanese Honeysuckles are the most fragrant of all climbing Honeysuckles. The Golden-and-silver Honeysuckles scent intensifies when the flowers become yellow, and perfumes the garden several meters away from the plant. In milder winters, the handsome, dark green leaves can stay on the plant all year and in hot summers, the flowers may be followed by small, inedible purple-black berries. This fragrant honeysuckle vine enjoys part shade to full sun. A vigourous grower, it can be controlled by pruning and/or growing it in greater shade. Newly planted Hall's Prolific Honeysuckles should be cut back by up to two thirds in their first year in early spring. The resulting new growth can then be tied onto a frame, and nipped back when it reaches the desired height. Looks lovely scrambling over a stone wall or growing through a robust, mature tree.
