Hippophae rhamnoides 'Lord' is an early-blooming male Sea Buckthorn. It blooms for a 10 day period, which is long enough to pollinate most early-flowering female sea buckthorn varieties. Lord Male Sea Buckthorn can pollinate several surrounding female plants (typical orchards have 1 male for every 7 female plants). 'Lord' is a male Sea Buckthorn. The yellowish-white flowers do not turn to fruit. Sea Buckthorn plants are also a great addition to the garden as they catch atmospheric nitrogen and redirect it into the ground; and they are highly resilient to air pollution. This hardy cultivar grows into a tall shrub (10' to 12') with a few thorns, which makes it a great sanctuary for birds and other small native animals.
