Hippophae rhamnoides 'Inya' (Inya Sea Buckthorn) produces large orange-red fruits (0,85g per fruit or 85g/100 fruits in average). Inya is a Russian female cultivar, featuring almost thornless branches, making berries easy to pick by hand. A highly productive variety that has high fruit yield from the age of three (up to 14,9t/ha). Inya's fruit is noted for its exceptional taste and high carotene content (25mg/100g). While its vitamin C content (80mg/100g) is more modest and its oil content (4% of its weight) is one of the lowest, this variety is recommended for making cosmetics. With a low sugar rate of 5,2% and fairly high acidity (1,7%), Inya Sea Buckthorn is not particularly recommended for juices. Female plants require a male species nearby to produce fruit. Typical orchards have 1 male for every 7 female plants. Blooming for 6 to 12 days, in early May, Inya is an early bloomer. It will require a male 'Gnom' or 'Lord' Sea Buckthorn (early season), or eventually 'Pollmix' (mid-season) to be planted nearby. Orange berries and attractive greyish green foliage make this edible plant a beautiful landscape addition in the fall and winter months. Sea Buckthorn plants are also a great addition as they catch atmospheric nitrogen, and redirect it into the ground.
